Our approach to sustainability is focused on three areas: energy – environment – empowerment.

Energy

SSC believes that energy cost control begins with an evaluation of current and historical consumption. We conduct a detailed study to establish baseline building energy and water usage and an asset condition assessment to identify investment-grade energy measure recommendations. By following a customized preventative maintenance plan for buildings and equipment, we can achieve higher levels of energy conservation and cost savings for our partner schools.

Environment

From water conservation to a full line of environmentally certified cleaning products, SSC maintains our commitment to the environment at every level of service. Our janitorial program utilizes green cleaning supplies, bamboo handles, and reusable microfiber cloths allows us to reduce our carbon footprint and lead the way in environmentally friendly practices. The grounds team showcases their commitment to a sustainable environment through their work in water conservation methods, biodiversity, and soil stewardship.

FUN FACT

1 teaspoon of salt can make 5 gallons of water toxic to freshwater organisms.  Our Grounds Teams use smart salting techniques to reduce winter salt use by as much as 66%.

Over the last 17 years, I have held various positions within SSC that have allowed me to expand my knowledge of communications, business, and sustainability.

In my current role, I have the opportunity to share the wide variety of projects that SSC tackles with the wider facilities management community.
