Unity Day 2023 | Spreading the Message of Kindness, Acceptance & Inclusion

October 18, 2023

Each year, on the third Wednesday in October, K12 schools across the United States spread the message of kindness, acceptance, and inclusion to prevent bullying by celebrating Unity Day. Unity Day, started by PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center, serves as an opportunity for students, educators, support staff, and the community to come together to bring awareness to an issue affecting our schools’ children.

"For years, our culture justified bullying with expressions such as, 'Bullying is a natural part of childhood,' 'Some kids just deserve to be bullied,' or 'Bullying is a rite of passage.' The goal of the day is to bring together youth, parents, educators, businesses, and community members across the nation to emphasize the message that bullying is not acceptable and that all students deserve to be safe in school, online, and in the community."

PACER

SSC first celebrated Unity Day at our partner schools in 2022. This year, we are excited to share that we expanded our participation, with over 1,200 associates helping to spread the message of Unity Day.

Our associates changed out their uniforms for bright orange shirts, displaying the message “Kindness is my Superpower.” The bold orange color is chosen because of its association with safety and visibility. We have also encouraged each associate to take the Unity Day Pledge:

“I pledge to support others who have been hurt or harmed, treat others with kindness, be more accepting of people’s differences, and help include those who are left out.”

It takes courage to stand up to bullying. Together we can create learning environments that foster inclusion, acceptance, and kindness. Please visit StopBullying.gov and PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center to access additional resources for Unity Day.
